In the middle of October we were asked to run a 5-day workshop with 20 students from the Royal College of Art's Innovation Design Engineering Program. We split the students up into teams of 3, giving them each a few jars of Bare Paint. The results were fantastic. This group made a bunch of amazing liquid switches using Bare Paint and baby oil. Because Bare Paint is water based, it tends to congeal to itself when in a bath of bath oil. These spheres of paint are conductive and can be used to close a circuit as seen in the video above.

You can see a few blobs of Bare Paint suspended in oil in the cup above.

This switch used a balloon filled with baby oil and Bare Paint. The two copper coated steel wires going into the balloon are connected to the battery and LED. moving the balloon around allowed the paint to connect between the two wires, closing the circuit.

This pool of Bare Pain in baby oil was a fun way to operate a switch. By arranging all of the spheres of Bare Paint into one line, you could close the circuit between the wires on the top and bottom of the photo. A truly tangible electrical experience.
