Water damage is one of the leading causes of both residential and commercial insurance claims. Water leaks can cause damage to building structures, furniture, electronic equipment and stock, not to mention the potential revenue losses incurred if day-to-day business activities are interrupted. While leaks caused by burst pipes and faulty plumbing can cause immediate disruption, small leaks can go undetected for months or years, causing foundations to deteriorate over time, or creating significant health hazards. Without immediate action, mold growth can pose health risks to occupants, while severely damaging building structures. A small undetected plumbing leak can also affect water usage, raising utility costs through an inflated water bill.

Some of the leading causes of water damage are burst pipes, or equipment, sprinkler, heating, ventilation and air conditioning malfunctions. Commercial buildings, which have heavy use and footfall, suffer doubly, as water-related amenities tend to wear-and-tear even faster. At the same time, a water leak can be difficult to detect, a hidden leak can go unnoticed until water damage becomes visible, making repairs even more costly and difficult.

Our Water Sensor Technology

Bare Conductive’s smart water leak sensors offer an effective solution to catching water leaks early by leveraging Internet of Things (IoT) technology, and integrating into smart building solutions. Automated and remote, our leak sensor technology provides a leak detection system that increases efficiency by removing the need for regular maintenance and in-person water pipe checks.

Wireless connectivity means our sensors can detect water damage before it can be seen or heard. A few drops of water are enough to send an alert to building operators or management systems, enabling automated responses such as shutting off water supplies to prevent further damage. Battery powered sensors’ battery can last for years, function independently, and can be placed in a multitude of locations. Unlike many competing products, our printed electronics technology means our sensors have a flat footprint, and can be manufactured to bend or flex so they can be placed under flooring, equipment, or even wrapped around pipes. When placed in areas prone to flooding, like under water-based appliances and pipes, our water leak detector can trigger a remote alert or alarm with up to a single droplet of water. Sensitivity of water detection can be adjusted to avoid false triggers.
